Paiko is a little oasis in the transitioning town of Kaka‘ako. The spacious store will have you thinking you just walked in to a real-life Pintrest board. Paiko's open floor plan boasts tons of natural light, a DIY table for getting creative and plants for sale every where you look.
The store offers much more than just succulents. It's my go-to for eye-catching vases (in just my office alone I counted five vases from Paiko), as well as unique and locally sourced flora and fauna like protea, eucalyptus, wax flower, and monstera.
On top of the great selection of plants and vases, Paiko has a growing collection of locally made small goods like stationary, soaps and plant-based lip balms. And if you want to have the party of your floral dreams, you can book Paiko for a private event or attend one of the many workshops they hold in-store. As if this place couldn't get any better, one corner of the store is dedicated to Brue Bar, a company that is bringing high-tech coffee technology to O‘ahu.
The contraption behind the counter of Brue Bar, called the Steampunk 2.1, looks like something out of a Star Trek movie. This pricey and #veryRare machine automates the siphoning brewing process to produce more consistent and full-flavored coffee - by the cup. In their words, "it's more than a brewer; it's a functional work of art."
There is no denying the entertainment quality of watching your drink whirled into a tiny coffee tornado before being served to you, and the good news is their prices don't completely break the bank.
